  1. Wintergirls- By Laurie Halse Anderson

This book was about the struggle Lia, a young high school girl went through, as she battled against anorexia and cutting herself. Lia learns in the beginning of the book of the death of her old best friend, and has to battle against guilt issues when she learns her friend called her thirty-three times the night she died. Throughout the book, Lia fools her parents and stepmother and sister by acting normal on the outside, but the book is full of Lia's inner thoughts which contradict her actions. She falls back to her old bad habits and eventually is forced to face them, and find strength from within to conquer them. This was an inspiring story, because I felt sympathy for the painful times Lia was going through, but she found courage in the end.

5 stars- I would give this book 5 stars because Lia's inner thoughts are written so well-the writing is clever and realistic- and that helps the reader relate to the main character. I think this book could help anyone who was going through struggles similar to Lia's. I enjoyed reading this book a lot for those reasons. -Katie

  2. Diary of a Teenage Girl - Book 1 : written by Melody Carlson

This book is a journal of an average teen, Caitlin O'Conner, who struggles with the trials of high school school such as popularity, romance, and friendships. In this story you see Caitlin befriend a popular and fashionable girl, Jenny, and she instantly rises to the popular crowd. However, as Caitlin fights to become more popular and liked by her friends, she realizes that her relationship with Jesus Christ and her old friends are slowly slipping. To her astonishment she discovers that over the long period of time she had spent with her popular friends, her old friend , Beanie had become pregnant. Heartbroken, she turns from her proud friends, to her old ones. This story shows elements of true friendship, what it means to really love someone, and respecting parents the way they should.

4 Stars - This book defiantly deserves five starts because of its rich content and thoughtful writing. It is an easy read and great for getting to know Jesus Christ more. The reader can truly relate to the characters in this book because it is so real and lifelike. This book was truly amazing.
